A brief of the literature and theoretical interpretation of filtrate quality obtained in Constant and Variable Declining Rate operation system are presented. The general conclusion is that usually both system produce filtrate of similar quality, with economic profits of VDR systems. Lower capital and operating costs of Variable Declining Rate Filters can be obtained as a result of lower walls, higher total flowrate or longer run cycle.
