The author offers a detailed analysis of the condition of higher education in Poland, setting it in the context of the situation in selected countries. She concludes that to meet today's challenges, the Polish higher education institutions will need more efficient management, more flexible structures and re-orientation towards creation and dissemination of applied knowledge. Adequate financing will also be necessary.
