Kawaler medalu Thorunium. Nestor fizyki toruńskiej, inicjator i twórca Reports on Mathematical Physics i Open Systems and Information Dynamics, dwóch czasopism naukowych o światowej randze; wieloletni dyrektor Instytutu Fizyki; wychowawca i nauczyciel wielu wybitnych fizyków; dla studentów - po prostu RSI, jak w kuluarach nazywaliśmy Pana Profesora.

Professor Roman Stanistaw Ingarden, adopted Toruh citizen with the roots from Lvov yet born in Zakopane, celebrated the jubilee of the 90th birthday on October 1st, 2010; honored on November 3, 1994 in the ceremony Aki No Jokun by the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon (Zuihosho), the Japanese distinction established on January 4, 1 888 by Emperor Mutsuhito of Japan; since 1995 doctor honoris causa of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruh; bachelor of the medal Thorunium; nestor of Toruh school of physics, initiator and creator of Reports on Mathematical Physics and Open Systems and Information Dynamics, two international scientific journals of a high rank; for many years director of the Physics Institute; teacher and advisor for many outstanding physicists; for students simply RSI, as we called him behind the walls of the classrooms.
