The fiftieth anniversary of the hypernucleus discovery

After a brief personal introduction the discovery ofthe first hypernucleus, i.e. a nuclear fragment with a [Lambda] hyperon bound in it, is reminded. The history of the first double hypernucleus with two bound [Lambda] hyperons observed in nuclear emulsion is also presented and the confirming event recorded in a hybrid emulsion-counter experiment is described. The first purely counter experiment on double hypernuclei is discussed.
