W artykule przedstawiono jeden z ważnych aspektów metodycznych projektowania mobilnych aplikacji nawigacyjnych i lokalizacyjnych. Skoncentrowano się na pojęciu kontekstowości przekazu kartograficznego w odniesieniu do konkretnych zastosowań w systemach mobilnych. Podano szereg przykładów ilustrujących potrzebę kontekstowej zmiany treści wizualizacji kartograficznej. Zwrócono uwagę na konieczność wizualizowania treści bazy danych nie w postaci obrazu o konkretnej skali, orientacji i treści, ale jako zestawu obrazów zmieniających się dynamicznie. Wskazano też na specyfikę procesu generalizacji kartograficznej w aplikacjach nawigacyjnych i lokalizacyjnych.

The article elaborates on the idea of contextuality of cartographic communication which results from the specifics of cartographic presentation in mobile navigational and locational systems. In such systems geovisualization can be dynamically adapted to the needs of the user and his location. This in tum helps to mi-nimize limitations such as undersized display, limited memory and processor capacity which together with the necessity of working in real time make it difficult to apply generalization. Change of visualization method may consist in the revision of map contents, highlighting some objects in reference to others, but also in some graphical proce-dures improving readability of cartographic presentation. The article suggests two categories of contextual change of cartographical visualization elements: contextual correction of information, contextual correction of graphics. Presented examples of such changes include: omitting objects located away from the trip route, graphic weakening of inactive objects e.g. 'store', 'museum', 'office', graphic amplification of signatures of special interest to the user related to the selected destination and route type, automatic editing of map contents in vicinity of the user or destination. Contextual change of cartographic presentation can result from e.g. : route selection (car, pedestrian, bicycle, water), trip type (tourist, business, commuting to school/work), speed change, entrance/exit from built-up area, reaching the destination or enabling scalę shiftfunction. In this case the contents of database is not visualized as a picture with one scalę, orientation and contents, but as a dynamically changing set of images, with parameters which are often hard to predict (particularly in the case of visualization of online data). Therefore, according to the author, contextuality of cartographic presentation should be included in cartographic methodology and become a standard element of cartographic visualization design for navigational and locational systems.
