This paper presents a method of calculating settlement under cyclic loading. Behaviour of soil under cyclic loads requires evaluation of both plastic and elastic strains. The results of settlement were calculated for each cycle. The plastic part of strain was included by introducing the parameter X, which denotes relation between modules for both elastic and plastic strains. The first part of the paper presents the results of calculated settlement of dry soil, hence consolidation was not included. The second part deals with a simplified model of settlement of wet soil. According to essential assumption of the model the basic theory of consolidation given by Terzaghi can be applied in each single cycle. The analysis of the problem of pore pressure changes and settlement of the load is simulated by the cyclic load of a rectangular shape. The terminal settlements obtained using both methods were compared. Results of laboratory tests were also given.
