The paper presents the results of our own bearing capacity model tests in the 2D set-up using different kinds of sand loaded with shallow foundation. All tests were repeated five times to ensure the reliability of the results. For reducing side friction a special methodology was used. Influence of scale effect was taken into account. Empirical formula for estimating Nr factor and other factors influencing bearing capacity was proposed.
