The Presentations section contains six articles on the Millennium Park in Wrocław. It is an area covering almost 100 hectares, equally divided between an afforestation project (under the FACE programme) and recreational purposes. In order to honour the millennium of the City of Wrocław in 2000, the City Council voted to expand the park management programme to include elements related to the millennium, especially that the park adjoins the area reserved for EXPO 2010 for which the city is competing. The designs submitted to the national competition organised by SARP (Association of Architects of the Republic of Poland) generally follow the symbolic approach. The most extreme proposal (Third Prize) refers to land art and the park viewed as a monument perse. The environmental and educational approach dominates in the second group of submitted designs which contain many interesting proposals but few overt references to the millennium. The First Prize has been awarded to the design most harmoniously combining symbolic elements (alleys of the ten centuries, Mound of the Silesian Pia-sts), environmental approach (biological reclamation of the Sleza River Valley) and the needs of the local population (cycle tracks, playgrounds, dog-runs, etc.).
