W artykule omówiono światowe kierunki prac badawczo-rozwojowych w gazownictwie, na podstawie referatów prezentowanych na 23 Kongresie IGU, który odbył się w dniach 5-9 czerwca 2006 r. w Amsterdamie. Przedstawiono kierunki badań w dziedzinie górnictwa nafty i gazu, podziemnego magazynowania gazu, przesyłu i dystrybucji gazu ziemnego oraz jego użytkowania. Zasygnalizowano znaczny spadek nakładów na prace badawcze finansowane przez przemysł gazowniczy, zwłaszcza w dziedzinie użytkowania gazu. Przypisywany jest on przede wszystkim deregulacji przemysłu gazowniczego i stanowi poważne zagrożenie dla jego rozwoju w przyszłości

The directions of research and development in gas industry have been discussed on basis of papers presented during 23rd World Gas Conference in Amsterdam on 5-9 June 2006. In this article research and development in areas of exploration and production of gas, underground gas storage, gas transportation and distribution as well as gas utilization have been presented. A considerable decrease of R&D financing by the gas industry has been pointed out especially in area of gas utilization. The reason of that decrease is deregulation of the gas industry. It can create many serious problems for development of gas industry in future.
