Kompozyty metaliczne, opisane w niniejszym opracowaniu, zostały wykonane metodą mechanicznej syntezy aluminium z dodatkiem 8+10 % wagowych tlenków innych metali (MeO) w laboratoriach Nihon University. Otrzymane proszki stopowe poddano sprasowaniu pod ciśnieniem 100 MPa, a następnie metodą wyciskania w podwyższonej temperaturze (673 K) uzyskano pręty o średnicy 7 mm. Większe powinowactwo tlenu do aluminium prowadzi do redukcji tlenków MeO do postaci metalicznej Me z równoczesnym utworzeniem silnie dyspersyjnych wydzieleń tlenku aluminium. Rozkład uwolnionego pierwiastka Me zależy od możliwości tworzenia roztworu stałego w osnowie lub faz międzymetalicznych pomiędzy aluminium i Me.

An overview thorough research works on light-metal based composites developed at Nihon University - Tokyo - and tested according to joined research cooperation program at AGH - University of Science and Technology is presented. Aluminum-based composites were produced at Nihon University by mechanical alloying (MA) of light metal powders with 8+10 wt. % additions of heavy-metal oxides (MeO). Received MA powders were consolidated by compression under the pressure of lOO MPa then hot extruded at 673 K. Structural observations and hot deformation tests were performed on samples machined from hot extruded rods of 7 mm in diameter. Annealing experiments and structure observations revealed the effect of temperature on the material structure and properties that mostly depends on chemical reaction between MeO particles and Al-matrix. Reduction of metal oxides within Al-matrix can result from highest affinity of oxygen to aluminum than to Me-element. Redistribution of material components depends on solubility of Me-additive in Al-matrix. In general, two groups of composites were distinguished: (1) composites containing Me-elements that are insoluble in Al-matrix and (2) composites containing Me-elements that create Al-based intermetallics. Material porosity was found to increase effectively during annealing of the first group of composites. However, due to intermetallic grain growth and related local lattice expansion, the porosity of annealed 2 type composites could become reduced.
