The final year thesis course is the capstone project for students in many undergraduate engineering degree programs. Completion of a thesis is often a requirement for the award of an Honours degree and provides a pathway to higher degree study at the Masters and PhD level and hence the quality of the thesis experience can have a bearing on a studenfs career path options. The paper outlines a structured approach to the course based on project management principles. With students in the role of Project Manager, they define the project objectives and work towards achieving the various project milestones. This approach has not only led to a significant turnaround in timely completions but also an improvement in the quality of the project outcomes and a more rewarding and satisfying student experience.

Etap pisania prac dyplomowych na ostatnim roku studiów licencjackich jest najważniejszym zadaniem dla studentów na wielu uczelniach technicznych. Napisanie pracy dyplomowej jest często niezbędne do uzyskania tytułu licencjata i otwiera drogę do studiów wyższego stopnia - magisterskich i doktorskich. Stąd też jakość pracy dyplomowej (licencjackiej) może mieć znaczenie przy wyborze opcji przyszłej ścieżki kariery studenta. W artykule podkreślono strukturalne podejście do tego etapu studiów, oparte na zasadach zarządzania projektem. Studenci są tu Kierownikami Projektu, definiują cele projektu i skupiają się na osiągnięciu kolejnych jego etapów. Takie podejście doprowadziło nie tylko do uzyskania ważnych punktów zwrotnych, jeśli chodzi o terminowość sporządzania prac lecz również do poprawy jakości ich wyników oraz uzyskania przez studentów bardziej satysfakcjonującego i większego doświadczenia.
