This short review communication presents modern planar chromatography, the general ideas of solid-phase extraction (SPE) and especially optimization of the extraction protocol involving retention data derived from micro-TLC plates under reversed phase conditions using wettable with water stationary phase (HPTLC RP18W). Particularly, the graphs that allow a direct selection of an appropriate cleaning end eluting solvents based on the binary methanol/water mixtures for selected estrogens and progestogens were plotted. The computations were based on available in literature slope and intercept coefficients of the linear-regression equation formed as logkSPE = aRM + b for given steroid hormones chromatographed under reversed- phase (RP) conditions.
