Rawalpindi and Mussoorie : Diplomatic Aspect of the Third Afghan-British War (1919-1920)
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
On May 4, 1919 the first military operations of the conflict, which went down in history as the Third Afghan-British War, took place. This episode in the history of the British Empire is relatively little known, especially when compared to the two previous Afghan-British wars, the first in 1838-1842 and the second in 1878-1880. Both of these conflicts are extensively discussed in literature on the subject. Meanwhile, the last war of 1919-1920, which had far-reaching effects in many dimensions, was forgotten, especially overshadowed by the First World War. The conflict had both, the military and diplomatic aspect. Interestingly, diplomatic and military activities intertwined with each other, and the Afghan side deliberately used military action in negotiations with the British. This was reflected in two conferences - in Rawalpindi and Mussoorie.
Trzecia wojna afgańsko-brytyjska rozpoczęła się działaniami zbrojnymi 4 maja 1919 roku. Ten epizod z dziejów Imperium Brytyjskiego jest relatywnie mało znany, szczególnie w porównaniu z wcześniejszymi wojnami afgańsko-brytyjskimi, pierwszej z lat 1838-1842 i drugiej z lat 1878-1880. Oba te konflikty znalazły odbicie w obszernej literaturze przedmiotu. Znalazło to odbicie w dwóch konferencjach - w Rawalpindi i Mussoorie.
