The paper presents a student’s project of draughts-playing robot. The device was designed and fabricated as the part of engineering thesis assuming the low cost strategy. It allows to play with computer emulating the artificial intelligence. Some examples of the most crucial and interesting parts of the project are presented together with associated case studies for the discussed working principles. Following chapters describe the three major parts of the playing system: the image processing unit, the game-playing algorithm and motion controller. Due to the modular structure of the device it was possible to develop and test several algorithms and solutions separately in order to choose the best tailored. The paper is concluded with short summary that names the possible challenges for future development.
