Międzynarodowy rynek zmodyfikowanych genetycznie produktów rolno-spożywczych, zwłaszcza soi i kukurydzy wykazuje dużą dynamikę wzrostu. Zróżnicowanie regulacji krajowych dotyczących dopuszczania odmian zmodyfikowanych genetycznie do uprawy oraz obrotu zaczyna stanowić istotną barierę w rozwoju rynku i funkcjonowaniu przedsiębiorstw. Problem ten dotyczy zwłaszcza Unii Europejskiej, chociaż liczba powiadomień dotyczących nieautoryzowanego GMO w stosunku do liczby wszystkich powiadomień RASFF nie jest duża.

International market for agro-food products, especially soya and maize increases considerably. Different country regulation for genetically modified plants, food and feed are today important barrier for market development and business operations. This is especially important for EU countries, although number of unauthorized GMO notification was relatively small.
