Wbrew twierdzeniom aktywistów przedstawiających energetykę wiatrową i słoneczną jako najtańsze źródła energii elektrycznej, bez dużych subsydiów ich rozwój ustaje, gdy tylko przerywane są dopłaty ustalane przez władze państwowe. Widać to dobrze na przykładach z USA i z Wielkiej Brytanii. W wielu krajach jak Hiszpania, Włochy, Grecja, Czechy i Słowacja względy finansowe zmusiły ich rządy do redukcji subsydiów, co spowodowało drastyczne zahamowanie budowy nowych instalacji OZE. Głównym powodem wysokich cen energii z OZE jest ich przerywany charakter pracy. Widać to najlepiej na przykładzie Niemiec, gdzie brak energii z wiatru i słońca trwa nieraz po 5-6 dni i nocy. W efekcie Niemcy dokładają do OZE rocznie 25-26 mld euro, ceny energii elektrycznej są niemal dwukrotnie wyższe niż we Francji bazującej na energii jądrowej, a emisje CO2 wcale nie maleją. W Polsce, mającej warunki wiatrowe i słoneczne gorsze niż Niemcy, OZE nie są dobrą drogą do rozwoju elektroenergetyki.

Although green activists claim that the wind and the sun are the cheapest sources of electricity, their development stops whenever the states stop paying large subsidies for renewable energy sources (REN).This is clearly shown on the examples from the USA and UK. Heavy financial burdens become too much for many countries, and Spain, Italy, Greece, Czech and Slovak Republics have been forced to drastically reduce or even stop subsidies for REN, which resulted in stopping construction of new REN installations. The main reason for high price of energy from REN is the intermittent character of their operation. This is best seen on the example of Germany, where the lack of electricity production from wind and solar installations can last for four or five consecutive days and nights. In the result, Germany pays 25-26 billion euro every year to REN developers and the electricity prices paid by individual users are nearly twice higher than in France, which bases its power industry on nuclear reactors. And all German efforts do not bring down CO2 emissions. In Poland, where wind and solar conditions are worse than in Germany, choosing REN would not be a good solution for the power industry development.
