The Suwałki Anorthosite Massif is located within rapakivi-like granitoids which from the south abut on the granulite complex. Geophysical and geological investigations carried out for 40 years have not elucidated the origin of anorthosites yet. Igneous hypotheses are prevalent, though lots of important arguments have been presented to support other hypotheses, i.e., the anatectic-reomorphic, the metamorphic-reomorphic and the anorthositization. The critical analysis included numerous poorly documented problems, for instance, stratification of the intrusion, division of magma into arrays, gravimetric differentiation, etc. Also an essential role of the geologic setting of the region, the plate tectonics, the potassium metasomatosis and the dynamometamorphism, have been highlighted.

Suwalski masyw anortozytowy jest usytuowany w obrębie granitoidów rapakiwipodobnych, które od południa graniczą z kompleksem granulitowym. Przez 40 lat badań geofizycznych i geologicznych nie wyjaśniono jego genezy. Przeważają hipotezy magmowe, ale wiele ważnych argumentów przedstawiono w hipotezie anatektyczno-reomorficznej, metamorficzno-reomorficznej i anortozytyzacji. Krytycznej analizie poddano słabo uzasadnione wątki, np. rozwarstwienie intruzji, podział magmy na szeregi, dyferencjację grawitacyjną itp. Podkreślono również istotną rolę budowy geologicznej regionu, tektoniki płyt, metasomatozy potasowej i dynamometamorfizmu.
