W wyniku unifikacji systemów gospodarczych konkurujące na rynku przedsiębiorstwa wydobywcze osiągnęły zbliżony poziom organizacyjny, technologiczny, funkcjonują w podobnych warunkach ekonomicznych i społecznych. Przedsiębiorstwa poszukują źródeł unikalności swojego produktu w sferze oczekiwań społecznych, a jednym ze źródeł wyjątkowości jest poprawa wizerunku w oczach społeczeństwa, pracowników oraz klientów. Menedżerowie przedsiębiorstw wydobywczych rozumieją, że źródłem dochodów są nie tylko złoża i inne materialne bogactwa, ale również ich zasoby niematerialne takie jak reputacja, ludzie. Te niematerialne zasoby oraz wzajemna interakcja pomiędzy ekonomią, polityką i procesami kulturowymi zaczynają odgrywać coraz większą rolę w tworzeniu wartości dodanej firmy oraz są motorem rozwoju w globalnym systemie gospodarczym. W taką koncepcję postrzegania biznesu wpisuje się geoetyka − nowa dyscyplina wiedzy, która jednoczy problemy etyki z naukami geologicznymi, biologicznymi i eksploatacją zasobów Ziemi. Geoetyka, koncepcja społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu i strategia zrównoważonego rozwoju tworzą zasady i normy prowadzenia działalności gospodarczej ukierunkowane na Ziemię, jako obiekt geologiczny, społeczny i gospodarczy. W artykule autorka prezentuje nową dyscyplinę wiedzy geoetykę – jej zakres i zasady, które nierozerwalnie łączą się z koncepcją zrównoważonego rozwoju i społecznej odpowiedzialności sektora wydobywczego. Na podstawie przeglądu kodeksów etycznych i ochrony środowiska potentatów przemysłu naftowego, autorka przedstawia jak przemysł naftowy postrzega swoją rolę w tworzeniu standardów etyki biznesu.

Non-material resources and mutual interaction between the economy, policy and culture processes began to play a more and more significant role in the creation of added value of a firm and are the driving force of development in the global economic system. A part of such conception of business perceiving becomes geoethics – a new discipline of knowledge, which merges the problems of ethics with geological and biological sciences and Earth’s resources exploitation. Geoethics, the conception of social business responsibility and strategy of sustainable development create the rules and standards of economic activity conducting oriented on the Earth as the geological, social and economic object. In the article the authoress presents a new discipline of knowledge – geoethics, its scope and rules which are inseparably connected with the conception of sustainable development and social responsibility of the extractive sector. On the basis of review of the codes of ethics and environmental protection of petroleum industry potentates, the authoress presents how the petroleum industry perceives its role in creating the standards of business ethics.
