Within Rakawice Cementary - a great city necropoly of Kraków, what takes a prominent place is a large quarter, localised in the Southern part of the necropoly, beside its southern and western wall. It was founded during the I World War and dedicated to the soldiers who had died of wounds and diseases. The quarter is surmounted with a monumental statue, one of the biggest in this area. It seems that shaping the cemetery and designing this statue needs to be treated as a certain whole. It was a work of one of well educated and able architects. Historical research as well as observation of the statue did not give an answer to the question about the author of the statue design. The designs are not known, and we know little about the circumstances that accompanied its construction, there is no plaque with a name. In this situation we are left with speculations based on weak premises. Unfortunately, the archive of the 1st Corps was lost, so the perspective of confirming or negating our guesses is feeble. Unfortunately it is similar in the case when a Viennese, Czech or any other architect, not connected with military world, was commissioned by the army, fulfilled the task and „disappeared". His name can emerge only by accident.
