The method described in this work is the strain gauge method used to measure huge magnetostriction of the heavy rare earth - iron intermetallics. The measuring system and the procedure of measurement are presented in this work. The results of huge magnetostriction determined for the heavy rare earth-iron compounds with the MgCu₂ - type crystal structure are shown.
