One of the challenges faced by the petroleum technology is the determination of formation properties of laminated reservoirs. High resolution measurements are required to evaluate thin laminations. Static parameters are obtained from petrophysical logging and dynamic reservoir behavior is analyzed through well testing. If traditional, well testing succeeds in determining flow capacity of reservoir at a large scale, it fails at identifying complexities like laminations or fluids variability. Advances in technology led to the development of tools capable of measuring fluid properties, reservoir pressure, flow capacity and retrieving good quality samples layer by layer as well as in fractures. This paper describes the principle of measurement of such dynamic testers and presents the applications of high resolution well test in reservoir modeling, geomechanics, drilling and completion optimization. An example is given for multilayer and laminated reservoirs.
