Heavy duty, low speed 2-axial-groove cylindrical journal bearings are applied in the bearing system of the hoisting machinery of coalmine. For the proper operation of such bearings it is necessary to know their static characteristics including the friction forces. The knowledge of these forces, which are generated in the bearings gives, can give information on the possible power savings. The static characteristics were obtained by the solution of the Reynolds, energy and viscosity equations on the assumption of adiabatic oil film.
