Na podstawie posiadanego zbioru testowych pomiarów dalmierzy elektromagnetycznych założono bank danych obejmujący informacje w trzynastu kategoriach. Z założonego banku danych wyselekcjonowano dane o charakterze technicznym niezbędne do obliczenia relacji średniego błędu pojedynczego pomiaru m₀ do deklarowanego przez producenta błędu standardowego m_s oraz relacji poprawek dalmierza K do błędów m_s. Dane te posłużyły do oceny jakości dalmierzy różnych firm, opierającej się na stwierdzeniu z jaką częstością występują różne wartości m₀/m_s oraz K/m_s.

Computer database, containing metrological characteristics of ca. 900 electronic distance meters (EDM’s), produced by 11 world companies, which were tested on comparator’s bases in Poland, was prepared at the Department of Geodesy, Institute of Geodesy and Cartography. About 1600 calibrations were analyzed and technical data were selected, which are needed for calculating relations between mean error of single measurement m₀ and its standard error m_s (as declared by producer), as well as for determining relations between corrections of distance meter K and its standard error ms. These data served for evaluation of quality of distance meters produced by various companies. The evaluation was based on determination, how frequently occur different values of m₀/m_s and K/m_s. Moreover, the analysis was aimed at examination of changes of distance meter’s correction K in time, which characterizes stability of results of measurements. The conclusions drawn from this analysis confirm need of testing each distance meter on field comparator, in order to ensure: • national metrological standard, • control of initial values, entered to distance meter memory, e.g. fixed corrections of distance meter, mirror corrections, used scale coefficients (atmospheric, projection, etc.), • check of affecting the measured distances by use of untypical distance meter fittings, for instance mirrors, mirror carriers, carriers of mounts-on EDM, etc.
