This article presents a pilot project of a wayfinding system - spatial visual identification for the Central Campus of the Warsaw University of Technology in the light of the principles of universal design. The aim of the project was to facilitate access to the university’s facilities and to increase the comfort of users by designing a clear, aesthetically pleasing and coherent system of spatial visual identification available to all users of the campus, providing a complete set of information necessary to quickly find their way around the facilities of Warsaw University of Technology. In order to make this possible, a key objective of the project became the preparation of a homogeneous design for the visual identity system, applicable to all buildings of the university and adaptable within designated and defined boundaries. As part of the project, research was carried out to identify the needs of Warsaw University of Technology users in terms of signage and space accessibility. Conclusions - recommendations were then formulated, which formed the starting point for the design of a universal typology of elements for use in the spaces of the Warsaw University of Technology. In the course of the work, a method for shaping the elements of the system was defined, including material guidelines and principles for content composition. Recommendations to design for people with special needs have had a significant impact on the solutions adopted.
