EN

The natural geoelectric field of the Earth's crust is treated as an appropriately deformed geoelectrostatic field. The tangent component of the field strength vector is a measure of this deformation. By measuring the socalled pseudostatic potential using a downhole tool incorporating a measuring electrode pad pres¬sed against the borehole wall it is possible to greatly reduce the effect of this deformation on the representation of the true electrical field. The paper gives examples of experimental logs illustrating the effect of some of the petrophysical parameters and measurement geometry on the magnitude of the deformation in the recorded natural geoelectric field.
