The impact of damming facilities on the quality of water and habitat moistening on the Kampinoski National Park
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
Unfavorable changes are taking place in plant assemblages of Kampinoski National Park resulting from lowering of the ground water level. The reasons for that are agricultural drainage, watercourse regulation, embankment of Vistula River and the lack of planned water economy. Numerous underground water intakes and hydrological droughts in the park protection zone also contribute to the lowering of the water level. In order to improve water conditions the whole system of damming facilities was built. They do not however serve their purpose and the whole system of channels is of a highly draining nature. Therefore, the management of Kampinoski National Park took action to restore the previous character of the Primeval Forest. This thesis studies the impact of selected damming facilities on moistening of adjacent habitat and quality of water. The degree of habitat moistening was tested according to the Oświt method of phytoindication. This method allows to determine moisture conditions of the habitat on the basis of existing indicative plant species. On the basis of indicative species average m oisture numbers were determined for different assemblages around selected damming facilities. The tests made show that the damming by technical facilities does not have any impact on the quality of water. The quality of water has not deteriorated for previous ten years. Tests made in 2001 prove the II class of water purity, which is similar to the majority of samples tested by the Forestry Research Institute from 1991 to 1993. The decisive factor in both cases is the inereased phosphate content. The impact of damming facilities on the degree of habitat moistening is visible in case of constructions built in the seventies. However, there is no impact o damming on plant assemblages around facilities build in the second half of the nineties. Planned water economy shall be applied on the whole territory of the Park. The height of damming should be kept at levels allowing for optimum moistening of habitats for different plant assemblages.
