The author has defined the notion of trust building measures, stressing that they are a significant element verifying the present military system of security and an important form of an international dialogue in this area. The evolution of these measures, i.e. providing them with the additional notion of security, has been discussed Ten principles of international relations included in the final act of OSCE have been presented, Furthermore the place of military trust building centres in the military detente process. The evolution of negotiations on building trust and security measures in the Vienna Document framework has been analysed.
