Beim Einsatz von exothermischen Ansätzen kommt es zu erheblichen Verlusten der Reaktionswärme durch den Wärmeabfuhr in die umgebende Sandform. Eine zusätzliche, den Exo-Ansatz von dem Formsand trennende Isolationsschicht beschränkt die Wärmeverluste, erhöht Temperaturen im Exo-Ansatz, verlängert die Zeit der Speisererstarrung und vermindert die Wärmebeeinflussung der Sandform.

The use of exothermal risers is accompanied with remarkable heat losses due to the cooling effect of the surrounding mould. An additional insulation layer around the exothermal mass of the riser restricts essentially heat flow to the mould, extends solidification time of the riser, increases temperature in the sleeve and decreases the thermal exposition of the molding material.
