Coordination explosives are a fairly well-studied group of explosives. They have possible widespread applications, such as initiation charges in initiation systems, components of pyrotechnic mixtures and gas generators, as well as propellant burn rate modifiers. There are many papers about these materials in literature, but there is a lack of review papers describing their properties. This review concerns complex explosives containing heterocyclic molecules with a five-membered ring in their structure. The compounds are characterized in terms of their physico-chemical and explosive properties depending on the substituted ligand.
