The article discusses free time and recreation problems of soldiers in barracks. In the theoretical part the author presents outlooks concerning the essence, function and forms of recreation and also its place in problems of work and organisation psychology. He analyses the specific character of recreation of soldiers in barracks. Then the author presents the results of his own research. First he verifies statistically a proposal of a model of recreation activity of soldiers in barracks. Next he analyses the influence of intellectual abilities on the ways to spend free time by soldiers in barracks. Also some demographic data are statistically analysed. On this basis, conclusions have been drawn relating to organisation of soldiers’ recreation and also suggestions of further research of recreation in the soldiers’ environment
