In this paper we will discuss the issue of predicting the number of points gained at the end of the season by teams from the Polish football league. We will present and compare two models based on different approaches and show how their appropriate mixture improves the prediction accuracy. We shall use mean absolute error to measure a model’s fit.

W artykule estymujemy prawdopodobieństwa zwycięstwa, remisu oraz porażki dla każdej drużyny piłkarskiej z polskiej ligi w kolejnych meczach sezonu. Rozważamy trzy modele statystyczne: dwa główne, oparte na odmiennych podejściach oraz trzeci, będący ich połączeniem (model mieszany). Dla każdego z trzech podejść wyniki dotyczące całkowitej liczby punktów uzyskanych przez każdą z drużyn piłkarskich zostały porównane z wynikami rzeczywistymi. Do oceny poszczególnych modeli użyliśmy średniego bezwzględnego błędu. Zaobserwowaliśmy, że najlepszym dopasowaniem charakteryzuje się model mieszany, co jest przykładem na to, że odpowiednie połączenie odmiennych podejść może zwiększyć zdolność predykcyjną.
