Louis I. Kahn jest jednym z tych architektów przełomu modernizmu i postmodernizmu, których prace omawia się nierzadko bez nawiązania do kontekstu. Jednakże, głębsza analiza jakiegokowiek z jego projektów pokazuje, że Kahn był w rzeczywistości bardzo zainteresowany otoczeniem, w którym umiejscawiał swoją architekturę. Biorąc za przykład jedną z jego najbardziej rozpoznawalnych prac, Kimbell Art Museum w Fort Worth, oraz próbując odtworzyć jej oryginalne tło, możemy zbadać, w jakim stopniu kontekst inspirował działanie architekta.

Louis I. Kahn is one of these postmodern architects whose work is most often analysed without any relation to its context. However, a closer study of any of his projects shows that in reality Kahn was very attentive to any environmental setting in which his work was placed. Taking for example one of his most famous projects, Kimbell Art Museum, and recreating its original background, we can actually examine to what extent the context might have influenced Kahn’s work as well as his thinking.
