PL

Pierwotną przyczyną rozwoju sieci terminali kontenerowych było upowszechnianie się w transporcie kontenera jako głównej jednostki ładunkowej do przewozu ładunków wysoko przetworzonych w morskich przewozach międzykontynentalnych. Rozwój konteneryzacji skutkował wzrostem wielkości statków kontenerowych. Doprowadziło to do przejęcia przez porty mogące obsłużyć duże statki linii oceanicznych i zostawienia mniejszym portom obsługi linii dowozowych. Wzrost przeładunków kontenerów doprowadził do znacznej kongestii w otoczeniu hubów kontenerowych i problemów z dystrybuowaniem ich na zapleczu. Na początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych XX wieku powstały pierwsze lądowe terminale kontenerowe. Początkowo pełniły one wyłącznie funkcję transportową. Z biegiem lat zaczęły odgrywać znacznie większą rolę w systemie transportowym, oferując większy wachlarz realizowanych usług. W artykule przedstawiono przemiany w zakresie funkcjonowania europejskiej sieci lądowych i morskich terminali kontenerowych.

The primary cause of container terminal development the growing popularity of container as the main type for cargo unit of highly processed products in intercontinental sea transport. The development of containerization resulted in increasing the size of container ships. Ports that could handle them, took over ocean lines, leaving smaller ports feeder services. The increase in volume of container in container hubs has led to significant congestion in the surrounding of sea ports and problems of hinterland’s distribution. In the early 90. the first inland container terminals were built. Originally they served only as transshipment terminals. Over the years they began to take over the functions of seaports. This paper presents the functional and ownership changes taking place in the European network of land and sea container terminals.
