This paper focuses on the application of novel extraction techniques such as Molecularly Imprinted Solid-Phase Extraction, Solid-Phase Microextraction, Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction and Hollow-Fiber Liquid-Phase Microextraction used for isolation and enrichment of pharmaceutical residues in environmental samples. Determination of pharmaceutical residues in such complex matrix is a difficult task, due to the fact that the concentration of the matrix impurities are much higher than analytes. A great progress in extraction approaches, which has occurred within a few years, means that the analysts have a number of techniques that can be used for the extraction of selected compounds.
