The problem of Ukraine’s resignation from nuclear weapon in the first half of the 90s in the 20th century became one of the most fundamental security issues not only for the post-Soviet region, Poland, as its closest neighbour but for the whole world as well. Since all significant topics discussed by politicians are reflected in media, also the Polish press was vitally interested in this matter. Articles showed the fears of the Ukrainians themselves who were afraid that resigning from nuclear weapon might mean the deprecation of the young state’s position which would lose an argument, i.e. nuclear weapon, in negotiations referring to security guarantees and financial aid for their country. Journalists informed in detail about Ukrainian politicians' hesitations, discussions conducted at the Dnieper River concerning the purposefulness of resigning from nuclear arsenal and disputes between Kiev - Moscow and Kiev - Washington. Whereas Russia and the United States were directly engaged in Ukraine’s denuclearization process, Poland remained only the observer of the events in the light of the press. Thus the Polish press is not only a valuable source of information about Ukraine’s road to nuclear disarmament but also how those events were perceived from the Polish point of view.
