The objective of the work wae the effectiveness of 6 herbicides: Barox 460 SL, Boftx 260 EC, Buctril M 560 EC, Kompal 365 SE, Lancet 530 EW and Starane 250 EC. T he studies w ere carried out from May 1 to September 15, 1997, on the lawn in Waryńskiego Square, at Dąbrowskiego Street in Poznań. The studies indicate that none of the applied herbicides exerted any negative effect on the aesthetics of the treated lawn surface. There was no destruction of the lawn grass, and the decreased number of weeds im proved the decorative values of the lawn. On the basis of statistical analysis of the results it was found that the investigated herbicides were effective already after the first treatment in case of such weeds as: Achillea millefolium L., Polygonum aviculare L. and Taraxacum officinale Weber. The number of weeds such as: Capsella bursa pastoris L. and Trifolium repens L. was limited after the second treatment, and in case of Plantago major L., the effects of the examined preparations (except for Barox 460 SL, Kompal 365 SE and Starane 250 EC) was a 100% one.
