Genetic aspect of differences in tracheid length of European larch families from seedling seed orchards To study the genetic aspect of variations in tracheid length characteristics in European larch, trees were sampled in a seedling seed orchards in northern Poland. Data (increment cores) was collected from 161 trees (25 years old) represented 8 full-sib families. The tracheid length frequencies in length classes for juvenile-wood increment core were obtained from optical fibre-analyser. The genetic impact on tracheid length and tracheid length weighted was observed (respectively: F=7.59 and F=6.88). Tukey post-hoc test for tracheid length weighted indicated significant differences between all tracheid length classes. Tracheid length weighted distribution differed between the families. The most frequent were tracheids from second length class. These findings are in agreement with results from the other studies [3, 2]. Results of this study suggest that there might be an opportunity for selection that could improve the juvenile-wood uniformity.
