Abstrakty
Nowy koronawirus (CoV), wirus ciężkiego ostrego zespołu oddechowego SARS-CoV-2, powoduje chorobę koronawirusa 2019 (COVID-19). Światowa Organizacja Zdrowia (WHO) w odpowiedzi na szybkie rozprzestrzenienie się przypadków COVID-19 ogłosiła pandemię 11 marca 2020 roku. Ogólnoświatowa reakcja na COVID-19 spowodowała znaczne zmiany w zachowaniach społecznych oraz biznesowych na całym świecie. W związku z obawami związanymi z pandemią wiele raportów dotyczących tego, jak najlepiej ograniczyć ryzyko infekcji, zostało udostępnionych za pośrednictwem różnych serwisów informacyjnych i mediów społecznościowych, przy czym odnotowano znaczne ilości nieprawdziwych informacji oraz spekulacji. Wśród nich krążą pogłoski stwierdzające, że stosowanie soczewek kontaktowych jest niebezpieczne, że osoby noszące soczewki kontaktowe są bardziej narażone na rozwój COVID-19, że stosowanie soczewek kontaktowych wykonanych z niektórych materiałów jest bardziej „ryzykowne” niż innych i że osoby noszące soczewki kontaktowe powinny natychmiast powrócić do noszenia okularów, w celu ochrony swojego zdrowia. Jak prawdziwe są te stwierdzenia i czy są poparte dowodami? Co najważniejsze, czy osoby noszące soczewki kontaktowe znajdują się w grupie osób ze zwiększonym ryzykiem zarażenia COVID-19? Ponadto, jakie są konsekwencje potencjalnego ograniczenia dostępności do specjalistów dla osób noszących soczewki kontaktowe podczas tej pandemii?
