W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród pracowników przedsiębiorstw górniczych w zakresie czynników przestrzegania przepisów bhp i bezpiecznej pracy. Zdefiniowano i dodkonano rozróżnienia między demotywacją i motywacją w obszarze bhp. Na podstawie badań zidentyfikowano czynniki występujące w miejscu pracy ankietowanych, które w ich opinii negatywnie wpływają na przestrzeganie przepisów bhp i zniechęcają do bezpiecznej pracy.

Safe work demotivation is a sum of factors which discourage employees from employing safe measures, as required by the laws and regulations, in their daily work routine. This may lead to negligence in safe work practices, which can occur in spite of the employee’s original motivation and commitment. A survey carried out among the employees of mining companies has indicated that there were factors in their workplaces which discouraged them to employ safe work practices or from observing OHS regulation. This phenomenon is adverse and requires urgent corrections. Optimization should therefore focus on non-financial factors involving the rationalization of occupational health and safety management, including the effective procedures or systems in the organization, as well as on situations caused by other people around the employee (superiors, colleagues and subordinates), which discourage the employee from working in a safe manner. These measures are, among others: – trainings in supervision - to change the attitude towards subordinates, and to facilitate communication, – rational planning and organization of work, eliminating superfluous workload, time pressure and personnel shortages, – care for the observance of machine and device maintenance procedures, and availability of the necessary tools and materials, – improvement of training effectiveness, – counteracting the monotony of work, e.g. by implementing workplace rotation, – review and development of concise instructions and safe work procedures, comprehensible to employees/users.
