W referacie zaprezentowano stosowane obecnie przez operatorów transportu intermodalnego w Europie technologie organizacji przewozów kolejowo-drogowych. Opisano technologie przewozów bezpośrednich, technologie pociągów liniowych, technologie pociągów dowozowo-odwozowowych w różnych odmianach oraz system hub and spoke technologie którą można nazwać systemem o strukturze gwiaździstej w której terminale regionalne małe i średnie połączone są między sobą poprzez terminal węzłowy określany w literaturze jako hub bądź gateway. Dokonano porównanie czasów przewozu jednostki ładunkowej pomiędzy terminalem nadania i odbioru dla omówionych technologii.

Principles for operation of the rail part of intermodal rail freight transport systems are described: direct link, connected large scale terminals, linear link, and feeder link connected regional medium and small scale terminals and hub-and-spoke link connected regional small and medium terminals via large terminal so call hub and gateway. The first part of this paper is a theoretical discussion of the characteristics of the transport network designs in Europe. The theory is then applied to intermodal freight transport by analysing how each intermodal transport network design affects the effectiveness performance.
