W pracy przedstawiono analizę wybranych rozwiązań technicznych modernizacji obiektów inwentarskich oraz ich ocenę z uwzględnieniem przepisów Unii Europejskiej w zakresie ochrony zwierząt gospodarskich. Nowe ustawy UE dotyczące ochrony środowiska i systemów chowu przyjaznych zwierzętom, podwyższają wymogi stawiane budynkom i systemom chowu zwierząt. Przy ocenie rozwiązań technicznych oprócz zwykle stosowanych kryteriów socjalno-ekonomicznych oraz ekologicznych uwzględniono kryteria biologiczne. Projektanci budynków i ich wyposażenia technicznego muszą uwzględniać dobrostan zwierząt jako podstawowe kryterium przy modernizacji ferm.

New EU laws, orders, and regulations on environment and animal-friendly husbandry have increased the requirements from husbandry systems. Husbandry systems are defined nowadays as the best possible combination of housing, manure removal and feeding facilities. Modernising of farms requires low-capital and low-labour systems. At present, the greatest effects on animal housing are standards set by purchasers of animal products. The quality criteria for these products have mainly been based on animal conditions and management. The designers, builders and equipment engineers should include good living conditions, meeting the requirements of animal welfare as a supplementary criterion for farm modernisation assessment.
