The study presents selected issues concerning the uncertainty of results of calculations carried out within analyses of road traffic accidents. The notion of uncertainty has been defined, with making use of the meaning of this term in the field of metrology. A set of seven methods, enabling the determination of uncertainty in calculations, has been presented. A computing example has been shown and a comparative assessment has been performed on these grounds. A selected problem concerning the estimation of parameters characterizing driver’s behaviour has been presented, i.e. a comparison has been made between the reaction time determined with the use of four different test methods. In the last part of the study, some aspects have been discussed that are related to the uncertainty of the estimation of vehicle motion parameters with the use of data recorded by increasingly popular automotive “black boxes”, i.e. Event Data Recorders (EDR). Based on examples of experimental and simulation tests, potential errors have been indicated that may emerge at the reconstruction of vehicle velocity and trajectory.
