Article concerns adapting Environmental Impact Assessment on prepare investment projects stage. In successive parts are discussed investments (for which, according to Environmental Impact Assessment, proper opinions, decisions have been proceeded) with regard of species groups. Three groups are set apart: fixed and characteristic investments; protective investments; modernization and enlargements. Protective investments have been submitted to detailed analyze. Their peculiar feature is to be of use both economical and ecological purpose. All analyses and researches are supported of empiric material according to range of use EIA for investment projects in Katowice region (1991-1997). There have been used documents of WOŚ UM (Wydział Ochrony Środowiska Urzędu Wojewódzkiego) Katowice. Assuming: EIA is the mechanism, which guarantee to take consideration of environmental protection requirements in business and investment activit.
