Abstrakty

EN

The paper shows new threats for international security that appeared after the end of the Cold War. The author describes modern piracy and maritime terrorism. The article provides the reader with the information about the reasons of rising terrorists' threats at the seas and oceans, i.e. the importance of contemporary maritime trade, the chokepoints at the most important sea lines of communication, the legal regime of the seas and oceans and the liberal nature of modern shipping business. The text is closed by the case study of worse case scenario event - the terrorist attack against LNG (cryogenic) tanker, which carries 250,000 cubic metres of natural gas. Additionally, the author tries to draft the consequences of regional wide terrorist campaign against merchant shipping.
