Over 9 km of tunnels in the middle of the 2nd underground line

W ciągu 18 miesięcy wybudowano ponad 9 km tuneli centralnego odcinka II linii metra w Warszawie. W celu przyspieszenia realizacji wykonawca zaangażował cztery, a nie trzy, jak pierwotnie planowano, maszyny TBM EPB. Budowa była prowadzona w bardzo trudnych warunkach geologicznych, m.in. pod dnem Wisły, zabytkową fabryką, rozpadającymi się budynkami, na głębokości 3 m poniżej posadowienia tuneli I linii metra. Możliwości przewozowe powstającego odcinka metra szacowane są na około 22 500 pasażerów na godzinę, a wartość projektu to ponad 4 mld zł.
The central section of the 2nd underground line in Warsaw is one of the most difficult infrastructural projects initiated in Europe in the recent years. Difficulties arise not only from engineering challenges, but also logistics, as the entire section is situated in the core of the capital city agglomeration of Poland inhabited by over 2 million people. Within 18 months over 9 km of tunnels in the middle of the 2nd underground line of Warsaw were built. In order to boost the delivery speed, the contractor commissioned as many as four TMB EPB machines. To say the least, the project was performed in very tough geological conditions, under the bed of Vistula, a historical factory, fragile buildings and only 3 metres under the 1st underground line. The estimated through put of the new underground line is approx. 22 500 passengers per hour, while the project value is above 4 billion PLN.
