Colorists are mainly descended from Impressionism – a style, in which colors were applied by artists as their individual reflection of the world they painted. Painters of this movement broke with the work in the interiors and went out with their art in the open air, transferring to the canvas their way of perceiving the world. This was associated with a reduction in the size of the paintings, which had to be easy to carry. Colorists, on the other hand, used vivid colors to express their emotions, which had little to do with the reality they observed. This article describes colorism, covering several artistic groups using a similar style, and an analysis of architectural motifs in their artworks.

Koloryści wywodzą się głównie z impresjonizmu – stylu, w którym kolory były ich indywidualnym odbiciem świata, który malowali. Artyści tego nurtu zerwali z twórczością we wnętrzach pracowni i wyszli ze swoja sztuką w plener, przenosząc na płótno swój sposób postrzegania otaczającego ich świata. Wiązało się to z redukcją rozmiarów obrazów, które musiały być łatwe do przenoszenia w terenie. Koloryści natomiast stosowali żywe barwy, aby wyrazić swoje emocje, które miały niewiele wspólnego z obserwowaną przez nich rzeczywistością. Niniejszy artykuł opisuje koloryzm, obejmujący kilka grup artystycznych posługujących się podobnym stylem i analizę motywów architektonicznych w ich dziełach sztuki.
