Road routes cross numerous local valleys in which watercourses, conducting water constantly or periodically, are located. In these areas, there are suitable conditions for animal migrations between habitats dispersed along the watercourses, which provide easy access to water. To overcome the water barriers there are bridges built above them. These objects are often connected with the brinks of the valley trough long and high embankments. High overpasses are built in the urban river sections with large bridges, while road junctions are usually placed on the adjoining area. In the article the parameters of the combined passages are defined, separating the space into the animal routs and the water flow. The author published the measures from which the animal passage’s width is dependant, and related them with the watercourses’ hydraulic parameters, like depth of water. The results of the local research carried out to define the utilization of existing roads objects and their use by animals are also presented.
