Dynamic development of the renewable energy sector is related to an increase of environmental pollution, as well as an increase of awareness of the risks associated with the consequences arising from the excessive use of conventional energy sources. Taking into account the requirements of the European Union, Poland is facing a difficult task related to the growth of the share of renewable energy sources (RES) to 15.5% by 2020 year. The aim of our work was to create a simulation of the Małopolska region, performed in two different directions. The first direction, assumed the specific value of increment of development in the electricity sector based on alternative energy sources. The second one indicated opportunities for growth of heat production from renewable energy sources on the basis of the geological conditions and the possibility of the development of unconventional sources of energy in the Małopolska region.
