Abstrakty
The deacidification capacity offered by washing with the suspension of magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles in 2-propanol, of model papers (Whatman paper) artificially acidified with a solution of H2S04, was evaluated. Observations of the samples after deacidification using scanning electron microscopy with EDX detector, and spectroscopic analyses based on XPS method showed the presence of sulfur and magnesium compounds, including the chemical linkages characteristic for magnesium sulfate, on the paper surface. Microscopic observations also indicated that deposits of magnesium compounds accumulated mainly on the surface of the paper, and the process of deacidification was to a large extent superficial.
