Influence of not full saturation on permeability of cohesive soils
Languages of publication
Abstracts
The paper focuses on permeability characteristics of medium and high plasticity clays in fully and not fully saturated state. Laboratory tests were carried out in triaxial apparatus capable of saturating a specimen by back pressure method. Actual permeability tests were done with use of flow pump technique. Experimental materiał gathered a this stage of the study explicitly shows that process of stabilising flow conditions in saturated and unsaturated clay is significantly different. This difference is directly projected on permeability characteristics. In medium plasticity clay the difference especially is marked in increase of initial gradient from 1.5 to 10, while in high plasticity clays from 21 to even 80. In the latter soil also coefficient of permeability decrease et least three times.
